After a 2020 season filled with so much uncertainty, the focus now shifts to 2021, the 64th season of racing under the Lanco Micro Midget Club banner, and a schedule that promises to be one of the most entertaining in Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway history.
The season begins with the annual No Wing Spring Fling, featuring wingless racing from the 600s, 270s, and the 125/4 Stroke division. That event, set for April 3rd, will kick off nearly six full months of racing at the Clyde. Points racing returns in 2021, and April 10th will serve as the first of eight consecutive points races, before the Clyde goes quiet for a weekend of recharging and relaxation on June 5th.
Racing returns the following weekend, June 12th, and sets the stage for an exciting summer of events. Plan to spend your 4th of July at the Clyde, with a Sunday Funday spectacle, featuring the wingless 600s, winged 270s, and one of four events in 2021 for the all-star slingshots. That event serves as the first of many special events on the Clyde’s schedule throughout the dog days of summer in July and August. The Clyde will host the two-day wingless 600 speedweek event on July 23rd-24th (with a rain date scheduled for July 25th). The following week will feature the grandaddy of them all, the Clyde Martin Memorial, with 35-lap features on the docket for July 31st.
As the calendar flips to August, the USAC National Midgets will roll into town for their annual date with the Clyde. They’ll be paired with the wingless 600s, with the event scheduled for August 7th. As part of the regular points paying event on August 14th, the Clyde will host an all-star slingshot speedweek event for the first time in track history.
As always, September marks the stretch run of the season, and it’ll begin with the annual Labor Day Shootout weekend, set for September 4th-5th (the rain date will be scheduled for September 6th). The Saturday-Sunday doubleheader will also feature a cornhole tournament in order to raise money for a local charity. The format will be different this season to ensure that all the scheduled racing gets in as planned and in a timely manner. To ensure that a final points race can take place, there will be a rain date scheduled for Championship Night. The final points paying event of the season is slated for Saturday, September 18th. If Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate, we’ll come back on September 25th, for what will become the final points race of the season. If Championship Night gets in as scheduled on September 18th, then we’ll close out the season with the annual Halloween/Trick or Treat Night, which will serve as a non-points paying event on September 25th.
