Newmanstown, PA - March 5 - The 2018 racing schedule at Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway offers a nice mix of weekly points-paying shows spiced with its traditional "specials" and one brand new, big race to be presented on Memorial Day weekend.
The upcoming campaign kicks off with the No Wing Spring Fling on Saturday, April 7. For the third consecutive season, the No Wing Spring Fling will feature the USAC Eastern Regional Midgets presented by ARDC. The mighty Midgets will be joined by the wingless 600 and wingless 270 Micro Sprints in a wild and woolly tripleheader. Alex Bright, the 2016 ARDC Champion, has captured the past two NWSF main events, while defending champ Ryan Greth looks for a return to victory lane at the Clyde. Greth won the very first ARDC event at Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway on July 4, 2015.
Preceding the No Wing Spring Fling on April 7 will be car inspection for Lanco members competing in all five weekly divisions. Practice for the weekly competitors will also be held that day along with Rookie Orientation.
The chase for the 2018 track championships begins on Saturday, April 14 as the five winged weekly classes - 600cc, 270cc, Sportsman, 125cc, and 250cc Four-Strokes - begin pursuit of their respective point titles.
Other notable dates include the second annual Kids Night on May 5, the prestigious Clyde Martin Memorial Race on July 28, the third visit by the USAC National Midget Championship on Saturday, August 4 (a change from the previous two years' Tuesday night slot), and the annual two-day, Labor Day Shootout in the beginning of September.
As in seasons past, the Clyde will host its traditional Memorial Day Open Show at the end of May, but this year there is a twist to the holiday biggie...it's been expanded to a two-night blockbuster.
On Saturday, May 26, the Clyde's five weekly classes will compete in an Open Show format with 50 show-up points awarded to Lanco member's cars. Admission prices, car entry fees, and purse structure will be the same as a "regular" Saturday night event.
The brand-spanking new event, set for Sunday, May 27, will see winged 600's and winged 270's in action along with the All Star Slingshots. And it's sure to whet the appetite of every 600cc and 270cc driver, as the winged warriors will be enticed by a "where else do you see this?" format where every finishing position in every race will be paid, including heats, B-Mains, and of course, the A-Main!
Lanco officials are extremely grateful to Rich and Diane Fox of Bud's Spring Service for their continued support of the Memorial Day Open and this new Sunday event, and the club is proud to offer this one of a kind contest where each position in every race (for the 600's and 270's) will be paid on May 27.
