Newmanstown, PA - For the second consecutive week - and the third time this season - the five division program of Micro-Sprint racing was rained out on Saturday at Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway.
This Saturday, May 28 - provided Mother Nature decides to finally cooperate - it's the annual Memorial Day Open Show, presented by Bud's Spring & Suspension of Lancaster, Pa. The non-point event (although show-up points will be awarded to Lanco members in each division) will pay $750 to win in each class, provided there are 24 or more entries in the class. And the entry fee is just $20 per car! Simply show up, pay for a pit pass and the $20 entry fee, and race for $750 to win (as long as there are 24 or more cars entered in the class). The track's weekly divisions - 600cc, 270cc, Sportsman, 125cc, and Sports n' Turf 250cc Four-Stroke Micros - will take part in qualifying heats, last chance consolation races, and 30-lap main events.
Gates will open at 3:00 p.m. this Saturday, with warm-ups getting underway at 4:30. The first heat race goes green at 5:30 for the Memorial Day Open Show. Rain dates are Sunday, May 29 and, if necessary, Monday, May 30.
Because of Saturday's rain out, Lanco's 600cc club members have been given an extension to be a guaranteed entrant in the Tuesday, August 16, Battleground event when USAC's National Midget Series visits the Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway. The 600's will run without wings that night and only the first 40 entries will be accepted. Lanco club members are guaranteed entries as long as their registration form and entry fee are received by Friday, May 27. Club members can certainly enter Battleground after the May 27 deadline, but will be placed on a first-come, first-serve waiting list along with non-members. There are currently 11 Lanco members signed up and 15 non-members on the waiting list, leaving just 14 additional spots available. The official entry list will be opened up to everyone beginning Saturday, May 28.
Non-members who wish to compete in the wingless 600cc portion of Battleground are encouraged to send in completed entry forms and payment to be placed on the waiting list for August 16.
