June 11, 2018
Newmanstown, PA (June 6) - Maybe the months of June, July, August, and September will be kinder to the northeastern speedways, racers, and fans?
The early racing season weather has not been very friendly to the area's tracks, as evidenced by Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway. The Clyde has fallen victim to inclement weather on four of its seven scheduled race nights thus far in 2018, with one event (May 5) getting wet after all of the qualifying races were complete. Those postponed features still need to be made up, and that process is set to begin this Saturday, June 9.
On Saturday, June 9th, with everyone eager to race, Lanco officials are set to complete the 600cc and Sportsman features from May 5th (the 600's also have a consolation race to run to set their field), then they will spin off an entirely new racing program for the five weekly divisions. Fans will be treated to seven big main events (for the price of five) on June 9!
The following week, June 16, the remaining two make-up features from May 5 will be run, as the Viper Chassis 270cc and the 250cc Four-Stroke Micros will (finally!) complete the show that began six weeks prior. The 270's had spun off a couple of laps before the moisture became too much to bear on the 5th of May, and their make-up feature will begin from that point. After the make-up races, a full program of heats, consolations, and 25-lap features will be presented. It's another seven feature night at the normal five feature price!
On June 9 and 16, gates will open at 3:30 p.m. and warm-ups get the nod at approximately 5:15. Racing, beginning with the make-up consi and features for the 600’s and Sportsman, will begin right after hot laps are finished.
Coming up on Saturday, June 23, is the rescheduled Kids Night presented by DMI (Diversified Machine, Inc.), with an exhibition race by the Honeybrook Quarter-Midget Club. There will be games and activities, along with prizes and giveaways, for the kids in attendance that night.
The temperature is rising, and so is the racing action at Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway! Come on out and LIVE the excitement that is Lanco!

LMMC Monthly Meeting
April 9, 2018
This Friday & Saturday: Two-Race Weekend Kicks Off USAC Eastern Midgets Season on April 6 & 7
Linda’s & Lanco’s Clyde Martin Host Midgets, Wingless 600’s, & 270’s
Newmanstown, PA - A pair of big races within easy driving distance of one another will kick off the 2018 season for the USAC Eastern Midgets this weekend, April 6 & 7, and the two most recent champions of the division will lead the assault in the action packed doubleheader.
Friday, April 6, the 2018 Groundbreaker event will jump start the new year for the mighty Midgets at Linda's Speedway in Jonestown, Pa. Joining the ground-pounding Midgets will be the wingless 600 and the winged 270 Sprints. Gates will open at 5:30 and race time is set for 7:30. Last season, rain outs plagued the speedway just about every time the Midgets were on the schedule, with just one race, the last one of the year for the USAC Eastern Midgets, getting into the books at the quarter-mile. That event was a dandy, though, as Alex Bright authored a last lap pass of his teammate, Andrew Layser, to score the win by mere inches when the duo crossed the finish line.
With his top ten finish in that final race at Linda's, Ryan Greth clinched his first USAC Eastern Midget point championship. Both Greth and Bright (the 2016 champion) will be in the field this Friday at Linda's and also on Saturday, April 7, as the clay-tossing Midgets take their broadsliding brand of motorsports mayhem to Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway in Newmanstown, Pa. as the speedway presents its 2018 No Wing Spring Fling.
Back in 2015, New Cumberland, Pa.'s Greth captured the very first Midget race ever run at Clyde Martin. There have been six Midget events since (four Eastern Midget and two USAC National Midget races), and Greth is still looking for his second triumph at the Clyde. Collegeville, Pa.'s Alex Bright has annexed the victories in all four stand-alone Eastern Midget races, while Tanner Thorson has emerged victorious in both of the National Midget Championship events. Anticipation for this event is high as fans and competitors alike yearn to see if this will be the race when someone other than Bright is holding the checkered flag at the end of the evening. Greth has come close to dethroning "the Phenom" a few times and he's looking for a strong start to defend his 2017 point title.
Joining the USAC Eastern Midgets on Saturday at Clyde Martin will be the wingless 600 and wingless 270 Sprints, with a 6:00 p.m. starting time. Strong fields are expected in both the wingless 600's and 270's as Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway constantly provides thrill-a-minute racing for wingless warriors in those two divisions.
It will be a busy day at the Clyde on Saturday, with the speedway's five weekly classes going through pre-season car inspection at the track beginning at 9:00 a.m. Practice for Lanco members who compete in the 600cc, 270cc, Sportsman, 125cc, and 250cc Four-Stroke classes will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The pits will then be cleared before gates re-open to race teams competing in that night's No Wing Spring Fling.
The USAC Eastern Midgets look forward to a big season beginning with this weekend's doubleheader at Linda's and the Clyde. Greth notched his first championship in '17, scoring a single feature win and lots of top five and top ten efforts. He returns to defend his title aboard the WSL Inc., Letter Works Sign Company Spike/Stanton No. 4.
Bright, who won three times and finished second in the standings last year, is armed with a new Elite Chassis powered by a Stanton SR-11 engine. He is aiming for his second point crown in the past three seasons.
The division's Rookie of the Year in 2017, Kenny Miller III from Birdsboro, Pa., is looking to improve on his impressive fourth place finish in points. He registered just one top five last season - a third place effort at Clyde Martin - and is searching for his initial Midget triumph as he steers a Spike/ Esslinger No. 23m.
2017 was a break-through year for New England's Adam Pierson, who often makes the long trek from his home to run with the USAC Eastern Midgets. Pierson engineered his first two victories with the club and wound up third in points. He will do battle in a Spike/ Esslinger combination in 2018.
Others expected to compete this weekend include Josh Heckman, Andrew Layser, Shawn Jackson, Christopher Dyson, and newcomer Lee Nardelli.
Nardelli purchased the car driven several times by Kyle Spence, and will make his Midget debut at Linda's on Friday night. Nardelli is a multi-time 600 Sprint champion at Bridgeport's Spirit Auto Center Speedway and has numerous feature wins in that class. The car is a proven commodity, as Spence recorded some impressive drives with it, so Nardelli should be a contender right out of the gate.

The slogan reads like this: "You've gotta come out and LIVE the excitement that is Lanco!", and those words have never rung more true than they will over the next two weeks.
Not just one, but A PAIR of big events take center stage at Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway on the next two Saturday nights, and the excitement level will be off the charts as June 24 offers a chance to help those afflicted by breast cancer and July 1 will be filled with pure patriotic mayhem.
This Saturday, June 24, is Kim's Kreations first PINK OUT NIGHT of the 2017 season, as Kim Glass and TT Troops raise funds to assist breast cancer patients at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, in addition to offering a hefty payout to the stars of the All Star Slingshot division as the Slingers battle in the fifth annual Slide at the Clyde. The Slingshots will join the Clyde's five weekly divisions of Micro-Sprints and all the main events will be recorded for broadcast on BRC-11, the Blue Ridge Cable affiliate located in Ephrata, Pa.
Last season, Kim Glass and her staff held four PINK OUT NIGHTS at area speedways (plus one softball tournament) and raised more than $8,000 that was used to provide care packages for breast cancer patients at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Beginning with Saturday's initial event, Glass and TT Troops have set a goal of topping that amount in 2017.
TT Troops is named for Kim's sister-in-law, Terri Bucks, who is a two-time cancer survivor. "Terri, along with all the other breast cancer victims and survivors, certainly exemplify our motto which is 'Support the fighters; admire the survivors; honor those taken; and never, EVER, give up hope because finding the cure begins with hope," says Kim Glass.
On the race track, the All Star Slingshots will compete in the Slide at the Clyde V, a National Tour event that could see the winner go home with a cool $1,000. If 30 or more cars enter the Slide at the Clyde, the winner will collect one grand, courtesy of Daryl Tillman Team ReMax of Reading. There will also be several other special cash and contingency awards for the Slingers.
Previous winners of the Slide at the Clyde include Randy Smith (2013), Mark Sensenig (2014), Joe Bodenschatz (2015), and Seth Spayd (2016). Spayd also won a second Slingshot race at the Clyde on Labor Day weekend and he captured this season's first National Tour race at Linda's Speedway in April.
Dave Carraghan, from Emmaus, Pa., won a special Slingshot race at the Clyde on Memorial Day weekend of this year.
The Slingshots will join the Hyper Racing 600cc, Viper Chassis 270cc, Sportsman, 125cc, and the HammerDown Engines 250cc Four-Stroke Micro-Sprints in qualifying heats, consolations, and 25-lap features on Saturday. Race time is 7:00 p.m.
Star Spangled Havoc returns to Lanco on Saturday, July 1, as the USAC Eastern Regional Midgets presented by ARDC make their second appearance of the season at the progressively banked oval in Newmanstown, Pa. The mighty Midgets will be accompanied by wingless 600cc Micro-Sprints in Firecracker Frenzy and by the wingless 270cc Micros in the Clash at the Clyde.
Alex Bright, the Phenom from Collegeville, Pa. who cut his racing teeth in 600's at the Clyde, will try to back up his April 1st victory. Bright also captured both stand-alone ARDC races at Clyde Martin in 2016 on his way to the ARDC point championship - his first with the proud 78-year old Midget racing club.
Along with A. Bright, this year's ARDC winners include Trevor Kobylarz, Brendan Bright, Ryan Greth, Spencer Bayston, and Brady Bacon.
At Lanco's No Wing Spring Fling on April 1st, Tim Buckwalter was victorious in the wingless 600 main while Mike Rutherford notched the triumph in the wingless 270 portion of the program.
The July 1st Star Spangled Havoc will see wingless 600 and 270 heat races begin at 6:00 p.m. The ARDC Midgets will hit the track for warm-ups at 8:00. Their heat races will follow, along with B-Mains and A-Mains for all three divisions.
Additional details for the Slide at the Clyde V and Star Spangled Havoc can be found atwww.clydemartinspeedway.com and also at Facebook.com/ClydeMartinMemorialSpeedway, along with the speedway's Twitter handle: @LancoCMMS.
And now you know why you've just gotta come out and LIVE the excitement that is Lanco this Saturday, June 24, and on Saturday, July 1!

Newmanstown, PA - This Saturday's MJF Trucking No Wing Spring Fling kicks off the 2017 season in grand style at Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway. The USAC Eastern Regional Midgets Presented by ARDC will headline the event, and the mighty Midgets will be joined by the wingless 600 and wingless 270 Micro-Sprints.
Following the April 1st curtain-raiser, the Clyde's weekly divisions take center stage as the "regular season" begins on Saturday, April 8. The winged warriors of the 600cc, 270cc, Sportsman, 125cc, and 250cc Four-Stroke classes have been chomping at the bit to get started, and there are several reasons why they are so anxious to finally take the green and get the 2017 slate of events underway.
Over the winter, Lanco officials increased the payout for just about every car count in each division. As one example to illustrate the increases, a driver could take home $500 for winning a point paying 600cc or 270cc feature, provided there are more than 30 cars entered in the class on a particular night. The entire purse breakdown for each class, and all phases of car counts, can be found on the News page at www.clydemartinspeedway.com.
To assist in supporting the increased payouts, the Lanco club has partnered with businesses who have become title sponsors for three of the weekly divisions.
Hyper Racing is now the title sponsor for the 600cc class at the Clyde, while Viper Chassis will serve in the same role for the 270cc division. Leading the way for the 250cc Four-Stroke class is Hammer Down Engines, and Lanco, as well as its race teams, is genuinely appreciative and excited to partner with these three outstanding companies.
Businesses or individuals interested in becoming title sponsors for the Sportsman class or 125cc division should contact Lanco President James Harrington or other Lanco officials or Board members. Contact information can be found on the speedway's website.
Fresh clay will also stoke the excitement level in dirt track drivers, and the anticipation is currently off the charts for the drivers who will be mashing the loud pedal at the Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway this year.
In the fall of 2016, both ends of the banked oval were excavated; the old clay was removed down to its base in all four corners and new clay was laid down in its place. The new surface was allowed to knit over the winter, and even with the mid-March snowstorm (thank you, Stella), the race track has come around nicely and is ready to go.
Following the April 1st No Wing Spring Fling, which is the first of three races for the Midgets at Clyde Martin in 2017, the points-paying regular season takes the green flag on April 8. The Hyper Racing 600's, the Viper Chassis 270's, the Sportsman, 125cc, and Hammer Down Engines 250cc Four-Strokes will compete in qualifying heats, consolations, and 25-lap main events. The April 8 program is sponsored by RTS Chassis.
On April 8, gates open at 4 p.m. Warm-ups begin at 5:30, and the first heat race gets underway at 6:30. This time schedule will be in effect for all of the April and May events, and again in September. Races at the Clyde in June, July, and August (regular point events) will see the times adjusted, i.e. moved back, by 30 minutes.
This Saturday, it ain't no April Fools Joke as the USAC Eastern Regional Midgets presented by ARDC rock the house at the Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway. While the Midgets are squarely in the spotlight, there could be a considerable amount of cash to be claimed by the wingless 600 and wingless 270 Micro-Sprints, too.
With the number of entries at 40 or more (per class), the winning driver will pocket a hefty $1,000. And Lamar Shaffer of LHS Engines has posted even more incentives for drivers running his power plants in the wingless 600 class.
The first three drivers across the finish line in the wingless 600 feature (who have an LHS engine on their car), no matter where he/she finishes, will earn a nice bonus from Shaffer. The first driver to finish with an LHS engine receives a $300 bonus, while the next pair of wheel-twisters crossing the stripe with an LHS motor will receive $150 and $50, respectively.
Two huge weeks of racing kick start the new season at Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway on April 1st and April 8th, and you've just gotta be there to LIVE the excitement that is Lanco!
